Social Media Analysis of 2017 Punjab Election
Social media has changed the way political parties promoted themselves. It has turned out to be a great channel to connect with people and increase the reach of party agenda. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections in India and in the recent US Presidential elections, social media played a key role.
To understand how social media played out in recent Punjab elections, we tracked social media performance of political parties and their candidates.
We tracked social media profiles of the candidates of Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), and Aam Aadmi Party. The data collected was from December 1, 2016 to February 14, 2016 for 64 seats in Punjab.
